About Us |
The Volunteer Friends for the Mason Public Library Through a project called "The Promise Tree," seed money was raised to fund the fledgling organization. With the help of Library Pioneers in Mason--Mary Sanker, Verna Niederman, and Marian Walker--the group held its first meeting in the basement of the Grange Hall. At that meeting, Cathy Hamilton was elected president; Clare Szucs, vice-president; Glenda Wachter, secretary; Lee Hamilton, treasurer; and Mary Sanker, historian. The organization's early goal was two-fold: serve the library in a volunteer capacity and lobby for issues that would benefit the library. As the library has grown, tasks once performed by the Friends of the Library (FOL) have been taken over by the library staff. FOL continues to hold Book Sales at least twice a year. The FOL has sponsored many fundraisers to help with the Library Expansion Fund. Fundraisers in the past have included: presenting an interactive murder mystery put on with help of Mason Community Players; selling Christmas gift items; producing and selling a cookbook "The Taste of Mason." The Friends continue to sell the canvas Mason Public Library bags and to hold book sales. The current officers are: Barbara Mutnick, President; Sharon Jurasz, Vice-President; Marlene Perdue, Treasurer; and Mary Kay Croisant, Secretary. In order for this organization to grow and continue to contribute to the improvement of the Mason Public Library, volunteers are greatly needed. Everyone is welcome.
